Basic Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 (28-ounce) can of whole tomatoes (or crushed tomatoes)
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1-2 teaspoons sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1-2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. If using onions, add them now and sauté until translucent.

  6. Adjust the seasoning with more salt or sugar if needed.
  7. Remove the bay leaves before using or storing.
